Do you know about 0.5 million people in India die every year waiting for Organ donors? India’s Statistical Data as of 2015 shows that in response to the demand for 1.75 lakhs of kidney transplants, only 5,000 transplants were completed. With 50,000 people dying of terminal liver disease, only 1,000 got transplants. These statistics are even more distressing in organs like hearts and lungs. India needs more organ donations as only 0.01% Indians have given consent to donate their organs after death.
Today, only 0.01% population of India have pledged their Organs in comparison to 36.5% in Croatia and 35.3% in Spain. This is all despite many NGO’s working to promote Organ Donation in India. It’s important to note that one donor can possibly give new life to upto 8 people who are suffering from end stage organ failures.
